Rey Mysterio Discusses Retirement and Son Dominik’s Potential in WWE

Rey Mysterio, one of WWE’s most legendary wrestlers, recently addressed the ongoing speculation about his retirement. Mysterio, who began his career at the age of 14 in 1989, has enjoyed an illustrious journey in the wrestling world. As he approaches his 50th birthday in December, fans are curious about how much longer he plans to stay in the ring.

In an interview on Insight, Mysterio revealed that he feels he still has a few more years of peak performance ahead of him. He signed a three-year deal with WWE in December 2023, indicating his commitment to the sport. Mysterio mentioned that he listens to his body and mind to determine when it will be time to retire. He stated, “Until it’s being brought up and when my wife brings that up, that’s when I pause. I don’t know if I want to do it for another two years, three years. I kind of listen to my body and my mindset.”

The wrestler emphasized the importance of his mindset and physical health in making his decision. He expressed concerns about his ability to move and walk comfortably in the future, highlighting the challenges of aging in a physically demanding profession.

Mysterio also shared a pivotal moment in 2019 when he considered retiring but was convinced to stay by his son, Dominik Mysterio. Dominik urged his father to continue despite the tough competition from younger talent. This decision led to a renewed commitment from Mysterio, who has continued to excel in WWE.

Speaking of Dominik, Rey Mysterio also discussed his son’s potential to become a WWE Champion. Dominik began his wrestling career in 2020 and quickly made a name for himself, working alongside his father before turning heel and joining The Judgment Day in 2022. Rey praised Dominik for his rapid progress and ability to learn from top wrestlers like Seth Rollins, Cody Rhodes, and Roman Reigns.

Rey commented, “Dom is getting really good at what he’s doing and he’s understanding the craft. The fact that he’s where he’s at with such little time, I wish I could be there, or I could have been there with four years of being in the business.” Dominik has already won the NXT North American Championship twice and held the WWE Tag-Team Championship with his father.

As Rey Mysterio continues to perform at a high level, his focus remains on his physical and mental well-being. Meanwhile, Dominik’s rising career suggests a bright future ahead. The Mysterio legacy in WWE appears set to continue, with both father and son making significant impacts in the wrestling world.
